The surgery site appeared swollen and fluctuant today.  Topical Lidocaine was placed at the lateral edge of the incision to facilitate gently opening the incision a few mm with forceps.  The area was drained with gentle pressure, serosanguineous fluid was present and a sample was taken. Sample revealed no edvidence of an active infection, only a few red blood cells were noted which was less than last time. No bacteria were found, WBC found in proportion to RBCs.  The surgery site was cleaned and a cold compress was placed for 6 minutes. Topical TAO applied over the incision.

P had a lot of serosanguinous drainage from the OS surgery site this morning after smacking head on side of cage.  Cleaned the area.  Warm compressed for 6 min, then drained additional fluid with gentle pressure.  Cold compressed for 10 minutes.  Applied TAO around the incision to help protect the skin against maceration from moisture.  Recheck with ophtho  this afternoon.

Evaluated OS surgical site.  There is moderate swelling from fluid accumulation under the skin that drains from the lateral aspect of the incision with gentle pressure.  The fluid appears serosanguinous.  On cytologic assessment there does not appear to be an indication of a septic process.  No bacteria were identified and there is not an increase of WBC to suggest a purulent discharge. Top ddx seroma or suture reaction.  Continue current treatments. Clean the area gently as needed.  TAO can be applied to the skin around the incision to avoid skin irritation.

Emailed ophtho faculty and the resident surgeon to advise on current status along with photos. Awaiting response.

Stepped up onto glove when glove was placed behind the legs. Stayed on glove while it was removed from the cage and then remained on glove for around 3 minutes until it was spooked and then stepped back onto glove and then reamined on the glove for around 3 more minutes. While on glove I was able to show it my empty gloved hand and slowly touched and moved the digits. During which it readjusted itself but remained on glove then returned it to the cage and fed it in the cage not by hand. Still shows refuses food from hand and tweezers.(Handling was done by Ariel)

Results / Findings
Whole body trauma CT dated 05/21/2024.
No skull fractures are identified. The orbits are relatively symmetric in size. A lens is not identified within the
left eye. The vertebral column is normal in appearance. No fractures are identified within the appendicular
skeleton. The respiratory structures are overtly normal in appearance. The viscera within the coelomic cavity
are overtly normal in appearance.
Conclusions:
Absent lens within the left eye, likely secondary to the reported trauma. Otherwise, unremarkable whole body
CT. The size and positioning of the patient precludes complete evaluation. Correlate with physical exam
findings.
